Introduction
The Extron FOX Matrix Series is a family of high performance,
modular fiber optic matrix switchers for complete, end-to-end
digital AV signal transmission and routing over fiber optic cable.
The FOXMatrixSeries products are expandable from 8x8 up to
320x320, depending on the model, and are fully compatible with
the FOXSeries of fiber optic transmitters and receivers. They accept
and route standard definition video, high resolution computer-video,
HDMI, DVI-D, and multi-rate SDI. Equipped with the integration-
friendly features common to Extron matrix switchers, together with
hot-swappable I/O boards and fan, real-time system monitoring, and
redundant, hot-swappable power supplies, the FOXMatrixSeries
delivers highly reliable, enterprise-wide switching of fiber optic AV
and control signals for any mission-critical environment.
Designed for Today and Tomorrow
The FOX Matrix Series features Extron exclusive, all-digital fiber optic
transmission and supports the highest resolutions for both digital
video and analog video standards. This enables easy conversion
from digital to analog and vice versa when using two compatible
FOX Series products, such as the FOXBOXDVI Plus and the
FOXBOXVGA.
Designers concerned with supporting the higher resolutions of
tomorrow are turning to a fiber optic infrastructure for its ability to
carry large amounts of information. Fiber is one of the only cabling
solutions that can support both the high-speed signals of today
and the even higher speed signals of the future. The Extron FOX
Series of products includes matrix switchers, transmitters, receivers,
switchers, distribution amplifiers, and signal processors to support a
complete fiber optic AV infrastructure.
Engineered for Mission-Critical Applications
The FOX Matrix Series is designed for optimum performance and
reliability in applications requiring continuous operations
24 hours a day, seven days a week, such as in government, military,
and medical installations.
Real-time Monitoring for Reliable Performance
A real-time monitoring system continuously provides self-diagnostics
of the I/O boards, fiber links, power supplies, internal fans, and
general functions of the switcher. LED indicators on each I/O
board provide a quick verification of input signal presence as well
as the status of fiber links with the transmitters and receivers. The
FOXMatrixSeries can be configured to trigger an external control
system, or generate e-mail alerts, when an inbound fiber link has
been lost.
Hot-Swappable Design Maximizes Uptime
The FOX Matrix Series is designed for continuous operation. Each
I/O board is hot-swappable so that the matrix switcher can be
serviced or reconfigured without interrupting all signal routing by
powering down the unit. The FOXMatrixSeries also features hot-
swappable fans and redundant, hot-swappable power supplies to
ensure continuous, uninterrupted power.
Low Power Operation
The FOX Matrix Series features an energy-efficient design for simpler
cooling, lower energy costs, and extended life. Through efficiency
of design and the careful selection of high quality, long-life electronic
components, fully-loaded FOXMatrixSeries matrix switchers draw
less power than comparable fiber optic matrix switchers. Low power
consumption means less heat generation, which translates to a
lower cost of ownership and an increased product lifespan.
Modular Field-Upgradeable Design
The FOX Matrix Series is a modular design featuring multiple board
slots. Each slot accepts a FOX Matrix I/O Board having eight ports
or sixteen ports, depending on the model, populated with LC-
type fiber optic connectors. FOXMatrix I/O Boards are available in
either multimode or singlemode versions. The multimode versions
support multimode fiber at 850 nm, which is typically used within
buildings or facilities with moderate-range transmission distances.
The singlemode versions support singlemode as well as multimode
fiber at 1310 nm. Singlemode fiber offers long-range transmission
capability over extreme distances of many kilometers or miles. It is
used in very large facilities, such as hospitals and stadiums, and
for connecting over very long distances between facilities such as
university campuses.
