MPS 112 and MPS 112CS
Description
The Extron MPS 112 and MPS 112CS are media presentation switchers featuring three independent
A/V switchers and a program audio switcher in one enclosure. The A/V switchers include a 4 x 1
VGA/audio switcher, a 4 x 1 S-video/audio switcher, and a 4 x 1 composite video/audio switcher. The
MPS 112 and MPS 112CS accept microphone input and mix the microphone signal with the main
audio in Talk Over mode. The MPS 112 features unbalanced audio on TRS or RCA connectors, while
the MPS 112CS uses captive screw connectors for microphone input and program audio outputs for
balanced or unbalanced audio. Both switchers feature RS-232 control ports.
Installation and Cabling
1. Turn off power to the switcher and
all other devices that will be
connected.
2. If the switcher is to be rack, table, or
wall mounted, position the brackets
and insert the mounting screws.
See the mounting diagram above.
3. Attach up to 12 VGA, S-video, or
Video (composite) input devices
(up to four of each type) to the
switcher.
4. Connect VGA, S-video, and Video (composite) outputs (up to three) to projector's inputs.
5. For stereo audio input, connect up to 12 audio sources to audio inputs of the VGA, S-video, or Video
(composite) groups (up to four for each group). See Audio Connections for wiring diagrams.
6. For unbalanced stereo audio output, connect an audio output device to each of the three groups, and
one audio amplifier to the Program Audio connectors. See Audio Connections for wiring diagrams.
7. If the switcher is to be connected to a computer or host controller for
remote control, connect the host’s RS-232 cable to the 9-pin female
RS-232 connector of the switcher. For an RS-232 pinout table, refer to
the “Remote Control Port (RS-232)” section in chapter 5 of the manual.
8. Power up the input and output devices, then connect power to the
switcher's rear AC connector.

Front Panel Operations
Selecting an input in Single switcher (one switcher with 12 inputs) mode
Select the desired input by pressing the associated input button. The selected input is routed to the output of its
group, and to the program output (audio). The outputs of the other groups are muted (to enable auto input
switching of the display). Observe that the LED (only one) for the selected input lights.
Selecting an input in Separate switcher (three groups with four inputs each) mode
Select the desired input in any (or all) of the three switcher groups (VGA, S-video, or Video) by pressing the
associated input button. The inputs are routed to the output for each respective group. Observe that the LEDs (up
to three) for the selected inputs light.
Selecting the switcher mode — Press and hold the Mode button, then press either the Single or the Separate
button to select the desired mode. Release the Mode button once your selection has been made.
Program Audio — In Single switcher mode, selected audio from any of the 12 inputs (indicated by a solid LED) is
routed to the Program Audio output. To change to another input, press the desired input button once. In Separate
switcher mode, selected audio (indicated by a flashing LED) from one of the three input groups is routed to the
Program Audio output. To change to another input from the same group, press the input button once. To change
to an input from a different group, press the input button twice.
Program Audio mute and volume — To change the volume, use the Program Audio Volume control knob. To mute
the Program Audio output, press the Mute button (the LED will light to indicate Program Audio is muted).
Microphone Volume and Mix — To change the volume of the microphone output, rotate the Mic Volume control
knob. To mix the microphone input with the Program Audio output (talk-over), press the Mic Mix button.
Program Volume Reset — To reset the Program Audio volume to the default level (88), press and hold the Mode
button and also press and release the Prog Vol Reset button.
Microphone Volume Reset — To reset the Microphone volume to the default level (0 dB), press and hold the Mode
button and also press and release the Mic Vol Reset button.
Microphone (phantom) Power — To turn the microphone power on or off, press and hold the Mode button
(>2 sec.) and also press and release the Mic Power button. The LED indicates if the power is on (lit) or off (not lit).
The MPS 112 supplies 15 VDC. The MPS 112CS supplies 48 VDC phantom power.
